Structural Alterations and Gym Fit out over 7 Floors, Cork City.

The scope of work included the conversion of an existing unfinished building over Seven floors into a gym in Cork City Centre. The project involved the fabrication and installation of structural beams, columns, structural strapping and an external plant deck on the roof which was craned into place. A series of studios were constructed, complete with acoustic walls. An extensive gym fit out, over seven floors, was completed. The site presented numerous challenges given its location in the middle of Oliver Plunkett Street, which is predominantly pedestrianised with access and time restrictions in place. All deliveries of plant and materials had to be co-ordinated with Cork City Council, neighbouring businesses and other contractors working in the area.

The two basement floors of the building had previously experienced extensive flooding. Love Build proposed a solution which included the installation of membranes, bands, seals and injection technology to prevent the future ingress of water.

A full mechanical and electrical package was designed by our in-house design team. Working closely with the client we were able to present numerous options and put together a bespoke package that exceeded their requirements. During the project we worked closely with consultants from the client’s design team to satisfy the requirements with respect to D.A.C. and FSC. This included the design and installation of a Fire Detection Alarm System, incorporating a Smoke Curtain on two elevations.
